MHIP is administered by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and CareFirst Blue Choice, Inc., which are independent licensees of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.

Brokers

The Maryland Health Insurance Plan (MHIP) provides health insurance options for Maryland residents who are uninsurable because of a health condition or who have guaranteed issue rights under HIPAA or the federal Health Coverage Tax Credit. There may be different eligibility and income requirements for certain plans. Details are outlined in the MHIP Broker Manual.

Applicants choose from the following plan types:

  1. MHIP Standard
    • $500 PPO
    • $1,000 PPO
    • $2,600 High Deductable Plan (HDP)
    • HMO
    • HealthyBlue
  2. MHIP+
    • $200 PPO
    • $500 PPO
    • HMO

Maryland Health Insurance Plan will pay any Maryland-licensed insurance producer $100 for every application that results in an enrollment in the plan as a direct result of a referral. The submitted application must be complete and producer information must be added to that section of the Enrollment Application Form in order for the producer to receive this payment.
